Bought this item in March 2011. It lasted two years and went mad. The female voice started saying "Press the menu button to program" and didn't stop. Whatever I pressed, it waited for a while and then repeated again. I've tried resetting the phone, unplugging and plugging it back in. I was looking for a replacement battery and couldn't find it. Eventually I just turned off the power and used it like a regular phone with no answering machine or memory. Not good. I will buy something else and it…

Nice, simple corded phone with speaker, caller ID, message answering. The black numbers/letters on the white keys are easy to read. The caller ID/date/time is not highlighted but is also very legible. A good phone for people who need a relatively basic landline phone. The only thing that bothers me is what I have with many other phones, both mobile and landline, that we don't really need a tone every time we press a button to make a call. I bought this stone in a specialty store. Now it's back in the box awaiting a return. I set it up according to the instructions but when I picked up the phone I encountered a big problem. I couldn't hear a beep, seriously! The line was dead! When I pressed the speaker power button, there was a confirmation beep, but nothing else. Excellent phone. Easy to set up and works well. It uses the AC adapter to operate the answering machine. No backup battery, not sure if needed. What I like is that the display shows busy when another extension is in use on the phone line. Few high quality corded phones are made today. GE has a good one worth buying and I hope they keep making it. I was able to replace a 12 year old GE speakerphone (still works great), AT&T answering machine and caller ID device with this phone.
