Okay, the original drivers are buggy, but.

GE doesn't actually make consumer electronics (according to their website). The consumer electronics division was outsourced. The GE Reader uses the PHISON chipset. Updated drivers are available here [.] My chipset uses Pen Drive 1.0 Series PS1006(C). You can open it with your fingernails and check the universal USB interface chipset. I strongly recommend using the NEW drivers for the PS1006 chip released on September 08, 2004. Version: v1.29r000 for Win98 (5.5 MB ZIP file). Hope that helps…

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Useless features

Don't buy this! suitable for card readers

I received this item as a wedding present. I tried to use it after I got back from my honeymoon. He completely ruined the memory card and out of 80 pictures on the card only 12 were readable, the camera couldn't read them afterwards either. It's bad enough he destroyed the $30 memory card, but he lost all of my irreplaceable honeymoon photos. I've had bad products before but this one ranks as the worst ever.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Please don't waste your time

This should be an 8-in-1 MISreader. First, it couldn't properly read the .jpg files from the SD card, resulting in my viewer not being able to open the files. Secondly, despite installing the device driver twice (with a complete uninstallation in between), the device kept throwing a "plugin error" as instructed and was therefore unusable. GE, I like your products in general, but please keep this one in mind.

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • Nothing

Not bad. Electronics

Bought this reader from Target last week. Good product. But I have problems with Win2000. I need to install a driver every time I connect this reader. That is, if I disconnect the device (via the appropriate "hardware removal") and reconnect it, Win2000 doesn't recognize it. I ran the driver installation again to get it recognized. If you're willing to live with the process, go ahead and buy. Alternative product: [Lexar Multi-Card Reader] which is $5 more expensive than GE. I hope he doesn't…
