see the light! - Halogen Bulbs

Huge amount of light from a tiny bulb. This lamp gives a daylight color (cool blue instead of warm yellow) and lasts relatively long. They give off some heat when standing or sitting directly underneath.

Extremely high failure rate and dangerous detachment of hot lenses

Bought 6 pieces on 11/14. 3 have already failed. The fixtures they are in are well ventilated and not insulated, so it's not because the fixtures are storing too much heat. Very disappointing. I do not recommend the product. Also, on one of the failed lamps, the glue attaching the tinted lens portion of the bulb to the bulb body melted, and a very hot lens fell from the ceiling onto the person's work area. below, which can cause burns and/or injuries.

Pros
  • REVEAL LAMPS: Reveal lighting brightens white for exceptional contrast and clarity. Reveal lamps are perfect for detailed tasks and beautiful spaces.
Cons
  • Brief instructions

Full spectrum protects against sadness

My husband and I suffer from seasonal depression, commonly referred to as the "blues." In Oregon, the days with cloud cover get very dark and are short. We've found that using full-spectrum lights like this makes a huge difference in our mood during winter. We have more energy and don't "fall" emotionally. These are hard to find in stores now so we were very happy to find them online. Worth every penny. Love the brightness and full spectrum of light like the sun.

Pros
  • LOW COST: This 50 watt projector bulb costs $6.02 per year to run, based on 3 hours of use per day.
Cons
  • Big and Bulky

Incredibly high failure rate

I replaced nine 50 watt halogen bulbs in an existing track light in my house to get the better reading light promised by GE Reveal. The light quality is very good - bright and very comfortable temperature. But within three months of installation, with no more than a few hours of use per day, five of the nine lamps failed. Our experience with such 50W halogen lamps in this track configuration is about 2-3 years. I hope it's just an accident - a bad batch of lightbulbs, but I only know the…
