The smell is very pleasant - not super sweet or cloying like many brands. I also use it in my clothes drawers - wrap a few in paper towels and your clothes will smell nice without being overpowering. Place one in a plastic trash bag with blankets for storage. People ask what smells so good in my underwear.

The overpowering smell of what I would call "artificial scent" gave me a headache as soon as I opened it as the smell was VERY strong, but almost no smell was of sandalwood. I hoped it would be better if they lit up. nope It seemed to last a while but I erased it halfway through and threw it and the rest away because it was just an awful smell. I could be wrong, but they appear to be made from a thin layer of charcoal on a stick chemically scented with sandalwood. When I'm burning I definitely smell a wooden stick, but what's even more disturbing, if I leave a stick or two out of the fire, the smell they give off will eventually fill the room, and when I sit next to it I notice an unpleasant odor , burning in eyes and nose. Remember that this is not the case when they are lit. Needless to say I won't be buying it again.

Does not smell like sandalwood. It has a scent reminiscent of perfume. The smell is not bad, maybe that's why it has so many positive reviews. I love Sandalwood. I love oils, bath and body products scented with sandalwood, anything sandalwood related. It's a rich, earthy, but not overpowering, spicy aroma.
