I've been adding a packet of this septic to my sump every 3 months for over 5 years now. Given the pool's age I believe it will continue to extend its lifespan.

I'm not sure how you can tell if they work or not other than the fact that the tank didn't work. So there weren't any problems with it, so I think it's working. Drop one night and in the morning I wash off the dissolved pack, so yes, very easy to use.
