HK GPS 500 Widescreen Navigator by Harman Kardon Review

What a great product! The graphics are great, the navigation is correct, the UPS is very accurate. I installed and ran it in my BMW in about 5 minutes. It also looks great in the car! It even plays videos if you use an SD card. We have a new leader in the world of navigation - see you later, Nuvi!

The device gives good directions. Although the software is quite inflexible. It always takes the shortest route, not necessarily the easiest. My device got locked multiple times, so it had to be reset. I suspect it has something to do with the heat. How it happened after I returned to the car after it had been on the street for about an hour. Technical support responded quickly but did nothing. It is not currently possible to register a product on the Harmon Kardon website.

The advantages of this device are obvious: * Form factor * Excellent screen * Video support Cons make you want to return: * Maps are not very complete and CANNOT be updated . There is no support for Harmon Kardon and they are certainly far from providing map updates. Excellent performance - poor quality Harman Kardon should stick to audio products only. This GPS turned out to be a big mistake. The sucker was starting to let me down. This resulted in the device falling onto my dashboard and the USB/power connector detaching from the PCB due to surface mounting. These are two disadvantages of the device. I first bought the TomTom 510 but was disappointed with its bulkiness. It wasn't small enough to fit in my pocket and was awkward to carry around.
