💧 Hydro Life Camco 52117 HL 170 Threaded Filter - Single Unit, White Review

The top part came off and flooded part of the kitchen and living room. I happened to be sitting outside and heard water dripping out of the van. I hate thinking about the mess I'd be in if I wasn't there. I've been using this filter for 15 years with no problems, but never again! I see someone else had the same problem. Camco has a problem or Revain sells counterfeit filters.

Then I noticed that the thread on the entry end had snapped so it was leaking. I used to use HL-170 filters but probably won't anymore. The annual replacement was easy to fit and everything seemed fine. An hour later we returned to the flooded RV. We have low water pressure (40psi) but it was enough to blow off the end of the filter and fill 2 spaces with water, charcoal and some orange/gold substance. Update April 28, 2012 - Come back to buy your yearly replacement - $4 more this time. Looks like Revain fixed the photo. This product is Hydro Life #HL-170 TF. The picture shown of this product is not correct, it is #3 with threaded ends and no tube. Luckily I need that for my setup. It seems to do a good job of making drinking water taste good and claims to "significantly reduce" contaminants, which a carbon filter doesn't. However, I can't find any concrete information. This is a great filter but you will need some basic plumbing skills to install it. When installing this filter, remember not to tighten the mounting nuts on the truck. It uses nylon fittings that must be hand tightened plus 1/8 turn. Leaking nylon fittings are the result of overtightening, so overtightening is not a solution.
