Much lighter and prettier than the picture shows. That's nice! Keep in mind that it is actually lighter than shown in my photo. The only issue I had (and it didn't affect my rating) was the strong smell. I can't describe it - something like braided or organic rope. In the end I gave up and washed it to get rid of the smell. I used cold water and it just faded a little. By the way, it's not a bad smell; it's just strong Would buy it again without hesitation.

I paid $38 for this royal Indian print bedspread. I was concerned the fabric would be one of those tissue papers printed in India that tear easily and is almost see-through, but this is much more substantial. This is a heavy cotton fabric with a rough hand. Other reviewers have complained about the bad odor, but I only detect a faint smell that reminds me of jute twine. And it dissolves. I recently got a cat who loves to sleep on my bed with my big duvet in a white duvet cover. I decided it would be wise to protect the duvet cover from excessive cat hair with a thin cotton cover that is easy to wash regularly. I am very happy with my new bedspread. It really lights up the room and makes me feel good seeing how sunny and colorful it is. The material is like a medium muslin, not tightly woven like a pillowcase. I prefer a more open weave for the spread. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a very straight or open weave, but it's just right. I've had many Indian spreads and some of them are very low quality and thin. This is a slightly heavier fabric.
