Description of 🧺 Inomata Japanese Washing Strainer Quart: Perfect Solution for Efficient Washing and Straining

Inomata Rice Washing Speed Bowl is specially designed with a solid bottom and side drain for soaking and washing rice before cooking. A thorough washing can significantly reduce toxins and chemical levels; great for fruits and vegetables, legumes, barley and other larger grains, too. Loose rice bran or starch, husks, and other debris will float above the rice and easily exit from the side drain. Measure in rice and cover with water; vigorously swish fingers through the rice and drain water; repeat until water is no longer cloudy. Made in Japan from BPA-free, food-grade plastic; top-rack dishwasher safe.

skip it This is not good. How general.

So yes, it rinses the rice. But rice, at least the rice I use (regular jasmine rice), gets stuck in the drain slots. These drainage slots are almost as thick as a grain of rice, but slightly smaller. So rice gets stuck in it but doesn't go through. Good thing the rice doesn't creep through or you'd wash it out of the bowl, into the sink, and down the drain. However, it doesn't drain well because you're clogging the drain holes with rice! So counterproductive! I went back to rinse the rice in…

Pros
  • measure rice and fill with water; Rinse the rice vigorously with your fingers and drain the water; Repeat until the water is no longer cloudy
Cons
  • Available in white only

Not as effective as washing in a rice pan

I was taught to wash rice in a rice pan with water, moving grains, drain muddy water and repeat. Before boiling, take some time to make sure the water is clear. This is important when using my cheap rice cooker. When using the Instant Pot, washing thoroughly is not that important. A cheap stove will burn excess starch/rice dust at the bottom of the pot. When I saw this article on Revain I thought it was a great idea. But even after the same amount of time washing the rice, I can't get it as…

Pros
  • Spilled rice bran or starch, husks and other debris float over the rice and easily come out of the side drain
Cons
  • Huge prize

Great for the intended purpose.

There are two versions of the Inomata Japanese Rice Bowl with Strainer and I've bought both. Below I will describe them and highlight the differences: FUNCTION: These bowls are designed to rinse rice before cooking and they do it very well. Rinsing rice is one of those tricky activities where you can't use a traditional colander because the holes can be too big and the rice will go through, and in a standard bowl it's difficult to pour out all the water without scooping up some of the rice pour

Pros
  • Made in Japan from BPA-free food-grade plastic; dishwasher safe with top rack
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
