🔧 Improved Sump Check Valve by Jackel (Model: DJ-545) Review

I've read some reviews that suggest they had trouble detecting flow direction. Even if there was no arrow pointing in the direction or the arrow was at the wrong end, all you have to do is blow on it. If the air can't get through, you have the answer. I think it's great and easy to install. Used it on a drain pump to drain excess water from low ground in the lawn.

The company that makes this product needs to ensure that their labels are applied correctly. What I got had the flow direction arrow pointing in the wrong direction. Luckily I stayed in the basement for a while after the installation and was able to shut our drain pump off immediately when it started spewing water all over the place because the check valve was pointing the wrong way. If you buy one of these, test the valve yourself to make sure the arrow is pointing in the right direction.

I originally had a check valve for a Jackel drain pump that lasted about 10 years. When I replaced the drain pump 5 years ago, I also replaced the non-return valve with a different brand. The replacement check valve failed after only five years, bursting and splashing water every time the pump ran. Valve works well and looks well finished. The flow direction is correct. The rubber adapters on both ends are easy to attach, and there was no leakage after tightening the band clamps. The only issue I had was that I thought the 1 1/4" adapter listed would fit my 32mm OD PVC pipe. It turns out that 1 1/4" fits the inner diameter of the inserted tube, not the inner diameter of the rubber adapter. It would be more useful to state the exact inner diameter of the rubber adapter. I bought this for a drain pump and it does exactly what I need. I ordered this on December 5th 2020 and installed it vertically on a new drain pump. As a temporary fix, I routed the exhaust pipe in a 90 degree bend, mostly horizontal, up the basement stairs, out, and then down the hillside.
