Failed second time

I'm updating this review because I rode another 10 miles this Saturday. It was very cold and I had to deal with these hikers quite a bit on foot and they fell off my boot several times. I ordered a medium and wear a men's size 9.5, so the size should be correct. When I got home I checked my gear and noticed that one of the links wasn't working. If I only got one season from them I could handle it, but they have to last over 20 miles before they let me down.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Negative gift

I have bought a dozen of these spikes and use them to recommend. They tried to solve the problem of the crampon chain coming off the ledge by strengthening the island. Now instead of a repairable eyelet breakage (carry zip ties to reattach them to the seat belts, the entire belt snaps in half! Renders the entire system useless. Tried to get them to do it by sending RME's and after phone calls, voiding their warranty to fulfil, but no response after more than 2 months of trying Defective…

Stuck on the trail.

I use US shoe size 9-9.5 and the medium size fits me perfectly. We went hiking on a gravel trail that was covered in ice (after rain) and then the top layer of snow thaws a bit creating an icy surface that was covered in slush/water. There were no problems climbing or descending the slope in conditions that would be dangerous for trail riding. Other hikers left the trail to find their way. After 3 miles the spikes showed no signs of wear even after a short walk in the parking lot and unfrozen…

Beware of design changes

I bought these to replace a pair of Kahtoola micro cleats that I love and have used for the past five years. I ordered the same size but the new ones are too big and made of inferior material. I did some research and found that the manufacturer of the product was switched from South Korea to Thailand with an unreliable and inappropriate redesign. I found out that there is a new company that is selling a version of the original micro spikes made by the original South Korean company that is even…

Not model 2016/2017

I firmly believe that they will eventually fail. I've had a few older models and they were solid. I lost them so I had to replace them. I've seen several of the new microspikes fall apart on the Appalachian and Pacific Ridge trails. I was hoping to buy the old ones but a new cheap model has arrived. The box even says they won the 2018 Backpacker Editors' Choice Award - a sticker on the bottom of the box claims it's a 2015/2016 model. The tracks on the newer Micro cleats are cheaply made and…

Great product but I don't use it anymore

Very effective in wet and muddy terrain. Helps you get traction where no other shoes or boots can. Good design and appears to be well made. Haven't used them on ice yet although I have no doubt they are very good, I've used the smaller spikes when walking on glaciers. However, my friend somehow managed to break the rubber in two places on the first day on the trail! Crazy, right? Mine has held up well and I've never heard of this happening to anyone else so quickly, so it must have been a…

Safety and health: two good reasons to buy them.

Bought for my husband the same day I put my shoes on as I walked through the woods with my husband and dog. I had been running the day before and my legs and back ached from the struggle to balance on the icy trails. So I decided to buy some Jakraks but bought these instead (although they are much more expensive) because all the local hikers wear them and swear by them. My husband chose not to buy them. HA! He fell and broke his water bottle and then had to grab me twice to keep from falling…
