Katadyn Replacement Element Carbon 2 Pack Review

Katadyn filters are top class filters. I added a charcoal cartridge to the inlet hose for extra filtration and to keep the ceramic filter in the unit a bit cleaner and this charcoal is for that pre-filter.

I've used a Katadyn carbon element in my Guide filter for years. It does a great job of improving the taste of water. Just make sure you follow the directions and replace the charcoal every six months. Otherwise you'll drink water that tastes like dirty socks.

4 stars only because of the price. Should be about half the cost. I bought Marineland PA0373 Black Diamond 40 oz activated carbon for about $14 and it will probably fill about 100 Katadyn carbon filters. Much cheaper. I use a vacuum sealer and portion/pouch vacuum bags to make charcoal bags that can be wrapped and carried around.

I was drinking tannin colored creek water on my hiking trail and this activated carbon filter made the water taste as good as bottled water. A necessary addition to the bag filter I bought, in my opinion. Keep in mind that there is a lot more content than you need to fill the bottom half of the filter. Not sure where so much is, especially in a vacuum bag that doesn't have a zip function once opened.
