just received and tried today. It's definitely not a 40x increase. I bought another 10x magnifier and it doesn't even match this one. I bought this to get a 40x magnification and it's disappointing. If you are looking for an 8x magnifier this is a good one. But when you're trying to get 40x magnification, that doesn't even come close. It works just as well as 10x.

I have "30x" and need another one. So I decided to try this "40x". In comparison, it consumes significantly more light even without the LED switched on, which is very bright. However, it's about three times bigger and heavier than the "30x", which doesn't have a backlight. Excellent purchase.
