So when I first got the sharpener it didn't do anything. I just threw it away and used the larger one I had. Just thought I would loosen the blades and lo and behold it works, my advice is to loosen the blades a bit if that doesn't work. I suspect some of them have spare blades that were screwed in too tight so the design seems flawed. Now works like a jewel.

I have had several Kum sharpeners for different pens and have not yet been disappointed. This is a good moment. The two halves are connected and can be separated to remove lead dust. My only complaint is that it should come with rubber stoppers to plug the holes when not in use because if you keep it in a bag the graphite dust will come out through those holes and go everywhere. I suggest emptying it and wiping it clean. with a tissue before putting it in your backpack/purse/bag/purse/anywhere.

After buying one of the other pencil sharpeners which turned out to be great I decided to buy one of each and see which one works best as they are all quite affordable. This one wins by a mile. The 2mm shank sharpens with little to no effort. It opens easily to drop lead bits and the blades are removed with a screwdriver if you break the tip. They're also the smallest of them all, so you can hold them in your hand while you draw. Also one of the cheapest. I'll never know why it's so hard to…
