User Instruction: This is a MANUAL lens, no electronic contacts, that's why your camera will not recognize the lens, it requires full manual settings on camera & lens body. please switch to MF MODE in order to use this lens correctly. Tips to use Manual Lens: 1) Set the mode dial to Manual (M); 2) Set the Release w/o Lens option in the camera menu to Enable; 3) Set the Shutter lock option in the camera menu to Off: no lens. Fine tune the front focusing ring to make subject in-focus and take a sample picture. If the picture turns out dark, take the following steps to improve, 1. Lower the shutter speed, from 1/500s down to 1/100s or slower 1/50 etc; 2. Raise the ISO Number, from ISO 100 to ISO 200/400/800 etc; 3. Use a remote shutter release and tripod to increase image stability; 4. Switch position to allow more environmental light coming through the lens into the camera imaging sensor. It's good if you understand how to use it.

For the price, and given that this is a slow lens and requires a very stable mount (and possibly pole tracking), I'd say it's about what you'd expect. Consider that a lens with this focal length, aperture, and greater clarity costs 100x more, so it's worth shooting with very bright objects like the moon or sun, or being static enough to be a target for a slow shutter speed to fix. Images attached to this 800mm lens from a Canon 450D, on a tripod (no tracking). One uncut shows how much of the…

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • Scarce manual

Good value for money!

That's it! Get great shots of wildlife and the moon with this affordable lens. This is a manual focus lens. So if all you want to do is aim and shoot, this lens isn't for you. If you don't mind using a tripod, focusing manually and only using the camera in manual mode, this is a great lens for the money. You can get pretty decent photos for the price you don't have to pay a second mortgage to buy a home. It's not the sharpest lens available for your camera, but you're not spending thousands of…

Good lens at an affordable price

Fast delivery, lens arrived safe and sound. The seller recommended. I bought this lens for my Nikon D90 and it works great with it. This lens has allowed me to take pictures up to 16x with this super telephoto zoom lens on my Nikon compared to a standard 50mm lens. All glass elements and the lens hood of this lens are multi-coated for excellent contrast and resolution, and the body is made of aluminum alloy. This lens allowed me to focus on 800mm macro lenses with prominent feet. This lens can…

Great lens for the money

This lens was better than I expected and a lot better than the pair of lenses I sent back. Even at full zoom I got pretty good shots. You should adjust your camera settings to get the best results. My camera has a zoom feature that allows you to focus on an enlarged portion of the image for excellent focus results. I shot with a Cannon T6i with a tripod and an external shutter release. I experimented with manual camera settings to get the best results. In image 1, a bird was about 80 feet away…

Useless. Suitable for camera lenses

Came with a broken lens cap. Image quality sucks, focus is lame. Wouldn't buy a second time. Edit: I've had more time to work with the lens and it's better used as a baseball bat. Don't expect to be able to focus manually (or any other option) unless your tripod is a giant cement block with chains holding the camera in place, as the lens' flimsy construction will cause the image to twitch everywhere. If you want to photograph wildlife don't buy this lens because if the geese/squirrels etc are…

Pros

  • Has disadvantages

The perfect lens for hobbyists on a budget!

As a graduate student I am on a very limited budget but I still enjoy bird watching and wildlife photography. Solution? This lens! No, you won't get award-winning shots with it, and yes, it's *much* harder to master since it's entirely handcrafted, but it still gets some good shots! Everyone says you can't shoot wildlife with a manual lens, but I've been doing this for over a year now and you can, yes, even shoot motion if you have the patience to practice. I got this as an "upgrade" for my…
