I bought 1 to test the quality and because it worked the first time when baby peed on the bed I bought a second one. Well, after 4 washes (wash warm, tumble dry low) some of the urine is gone. I think this should happen after a while (I have another brand and this happened after about a year) but 4 washes is not acceptable. Now I have to use 2 waterproof sheets together to prevent urine from spilling on the bed.

UPDATE: We bought this in August for my new full size toddler bed. She has been potty trained for almost a year and has had a very rare nighttime accident. We had this mattress protector on the bed and it is absolutely NOT waterproof as the name suggests! The accident involved a brand new $1000 mattress that we had just bought for our daughter! I was so upset that I did my best to make sure it wouldn't happen if she had an accident. DO NOT BUY THIS!

If you potty train him and wash him often, he won't meet the washing instructions. I have frequent bedwetting and have an extra layer of plastic underneath. When I pull it back the plastic layer is slightly damp so it would have ended up on the mattress if the plastic wasn't there. I just love this mattress topper! This isn't the usual waterproof plastic protection you might have been used to in the past. I have a thick pillow top mattress and was concerned it wouldn't fit due to the need for such deep pockets, but it fits perfectly.
