Don't buy this without a set of filter wrenches

I bought this slightly more expensive brass boost ring because of claims that brass rings are less prone to sticking than cheaper aluminum rings. Despite great care taken during installation, both in terms of exact thread fit and avoiding over-tightening, it was a snug fit on first use. This boost ring is worse than any of the many aluminum rings I've used in the past.

Lucid Brass Step Up 77-82 Step Up Ring

Step Up Rings: I also bought both Lucid's Brass 72-82 + 77-82 Step Up Rings to fit my existing lenses, for 11 $.95 each. The 72-82 has a regular serrated leading edge. [I used this boost ring when testing this set of 3 filters.] 77-82 has a nicer jagged side edge [Breakthrough X4 style]. I don't know why that knurled side hem isn't standard across the board, but it isn't. Good thread milling: no stuck filters. High quality and low price.

The filter is clamped on the adapter.

I bought this reinforcement ring to have a set of filters instead of buying a second set for other lenses. I placed the boost ring on my lens and carefully screwed the filter in, being careful not to over tighten as I've seen some people say they do in fact jam filters. Okay, I was going to remove my filter and the ring and filter both came off the lens. I tried to disconnect but the filter got stuck. A set of keys for filters came, I hope it will solve my problem.

Lucid Brass Step Up Ring 77-82 Step Up Ring

Step Up Rings: I also bought both of the Luzid's Brass 72-82 + 77-82 Step Up Rings to fit the lenses I have for $11.95 each. The 72-82 has a front rim with regular teeth. [I used this reinforcement ring when testing this set of 3 filters.] Model 77-82 has a nicer jagged side edge [Breakthrough X4 style]. I'm not sure why this knurled side hem isn't standard across the board, but it isn't. Good thread milling: no stuck filters. High quality and low price.

Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Very poorly made, lost a $200 B+W polarizer because of this

I bought this product to use with my 77mm Kaesemann B+W circular polarizer. I just bought the largest filter size I needed for my set of lenses (77mm) and was expecting to use the graduated rings on my other lenses (in this case 67mm for my Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS) . Every other filter in my camera is a B+W bag, and every other filter in my bag was worth the high price, so I figured I'd grab this brass booster ring and be done with it. But then this boost ring won't detach from my B+W and I've…
