I bought this unit to take pictures from my camera's xD card because many newer laptops don't have a floppy disk drive that can use xD cards. This works great, but I wish you could insert the card without opening the entire drive where you can see all the internals. I wonder if this will shorten the "lifespan" of the device.

Very compact device. This drive fits on your SD card and is easy to connect via USB. I've been using it for about a month with no problems. This device is not as easy to use as a flash drive, as you have to open it first to insert a disc. Open contacts inside indicate careful handling.

To insert an XD card and expose the circuit board, the device has to be hacked. I think there is less chance of damaging the card or card reader if you can just slide the card into the slot like you do with other devices. The compact size is a plus.

This item is great for XD cards. However, Amazon's description implies that it can read ALL types of cards, not just XD cards: the drives can handle most card formats, including Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard, Sony Memory Stick, Compact Flash Type I and II, MicroDrives and xD it is a DIFFERENT drive for each medium, not just one drive.
