Soft and good quality, easy to put on and take off. I like that there is no separate inner lining that makes it difficult for children to put the boots on and off. They're not too bulky and do a good job of keeping feet warm and dry. Didn't realize they had a rope that needed to be tied, from the pictures it looks more like a bungee to me.
