Description of MÜHLE TRADITIONAL R89 Double Edge Safety Razor: The Ultimate Barbershop Quality Razor for a Close, Smooth Shave

THE HANDLE: We design all of our products to be long-lasting, and this handle is no exception. The modern handle options include classic chrome, rose-gold metal, faux tortoiseshell, and black chrome. CLOSED COMB RAZOR: Grooming has never felt more nostalgic. This classic safety razor head has a closed tooth comb design that, paired with a gap behind the foam edge, prevents build-up. The blade angle is a special design for the closest shave. RECOMMENDED TECHNIQUE: For the cleanest shave, it is always recommended to keep the skin pulled taut and the blade should be drawn across the skin without applying any pressure at all. Shaving with the grain will have the best results. MÜHLE DIFFERENCE: Our actions are driven by an affinity with nature and a desire for the very highest quality. Expert know-how and pioneering spirit flow into every product, whether it be a handcrafted unique item or serially produced goods. Wow! If I had to sum it up in one word.

Well, the shaver arrived today. I had growth for a week. I wanted to see how he dealt with being tall, so I didn't shave until he showed up. Before that I had a Rocky Mountain Barber Co safety razor and a Gillette King C safety razor. I paired the razor with a spring blade. I usually stay away from feathers because they were always too sharp and I felt like my face was burning. I usually use Persona Blades unless I have more than a week of growth. This straight razor paired with a feather blade

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Without automatic

Too aggressive for me

Muhle R89 is too aggressive for me. This is a beautiful razor that is clearly well made but I have fair sensitive skin and am uncomfortable shaving. Do not get me wrong. This gives you an extremely close shave, but my skin just can't take it. Oddly enough, it shares the exact same head as the Edwin Jagger DE89. Not sure why that is. In any case, the mill is, as I said, well made, but the handle slips off a bit when wet. He doesn't have many opportunities to knurl. I think I'll stick with my…

The best I've used.

That's the first thing I learned. It has excellent finishes. Just wiping it every now and then will keep it nice and shiny. I managed to break my first one by dropping it and breaking the screw on the handle. I've tried several others in the meantime. Some with longer and thinner handles, others with a mechanical clamshell and adjustable head. I finally bought one of these again and will never break again.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Thorough shave without scratches and cuts

I've been shaving with a safety razor for several years. My disappointment with the first two razors I bought is that the threads on the top of the screw failed on both. One broke off due to corrosion. The second thread is broken; again due to corrosion. Very disappointing considering the price paid. Time will tell on this matter about this razor. However, I can say that I am very satisfied with the performance of this grinder. I had it for about a month. I still have to cut myself, which…

  • There's something to it

No difference to Edwin Jagger de89

The only difference in price and knurling that is a bit more grippy. He has the exact same head. Both weigh the same and are the same size. The reason I gave it three stars is because the Edwin Jagger de89 is almost $30. I am attaching three photos for everyone to see. I ended up sending it back because I have an Edwin Jagger de89 in Chrome and an Ebony pen that together cost about the same as Muhle.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Minor defects

The grub screw of the head has been cut off.

I would give it 5 stars but the rejection came down to one and only one problem. I've had mine for a little over a year and recently wanted to change the blade. As she screwed the handle back on, she reached the point where she would normally stop spinning but kept spinning. The yarn stand has been ripped out of the base of the head. I guess I expected more use from it before I had to replace it.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed

  • No

Okay, but there are better options

This is an old design and my example looked like it was made with old tools - a bit sloppy. Still a decent product BUT better options are available for a few bucks. I bought a Rockwell 6C for about $5 more - it comes with 6 custom settings (3 baseplates), good fit and finish, and 100 blades added (special offer). Knowing what I know now, I would choose Rockwell. You probably won't regret the purchase.

  • Good thing

Reliable, durable, I am satisfied

I have been waiting for this review for almost a month so that I can use the shaver several times. I used to have a razor that screwed in at the bottom and opened like a butterfly where you put the blade. In doing so, you unscrew the handle and the top splits in two with the blade running in between. At first I thought it would be annoying, but it really isn't. I read another comment that suggested putting some petroleum jelly on the handle threads to keep the water from rotting on the metal…

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • For seniors
