NESCO products are GREAT

I bought my first NESCO dehydrator about 15 years ago. I use it to dry peppers, tomatoes and herbs. Sometimes beef jerky. My original version was the bottom fan version. It was wonderful! Dried my food and herbs flawlessly. Unfortunately, lately the fan has started to lose speed (speed?). After 15 years I couldn't complain. I just bought this "top down" fan dehydrator. The digital controls are excellent. Much nicer than the previous analogue dial. And the size is compatible with my previous…

New isn't always better

I have had an American Nesco food processor/dehydrator for years (20) and wanted to order more trays to dry a plethora of apples. Since it was no longer available, I decided to use another dehydrator, the Nesco FD-1040 Gardenmaster. This dehydrator has more power and can handle more trays, but it's not as powerful as the previous model when compared side-by-side with the same number of trays and the same apple slices. The first, less powerful dryer has a fan at the bottom, a temperature…

New doesn't mean better

I got an American combine harvester from my stepmother to get this box of stuff from my house. I have cleaned and used it myself after sitting in the basement for a year, it works great, the dial is on the bottom, there isn't even an on or off button! So I figured I'd buy another, stronger one, maybe to speed up the drying time. FALSE This newer, more expensive model is ridiculous, and that's the best description I can think of right now. The trays are cheaply built, the motor doesn't sit well…

Terrible quality and most likely a fire hazard.

I have now ordered two of these units to get a good one and both have had to be sent back. They are complete rubbish. Both units had stuck fans due to the heater assembly not being attached to the mounting posts. The first block sounds like a helicopter as the blades hit the heater assembly. In the second block, too, some of the heating elements burned out completely. What scares me the most is the quality of the design. The rope is literally used to hold the heating element section leading to…

Makes great chicken jerky

I love jerky. When I found out I could cook for myself, I bought this Neco Food food dehydrator, extra trays and a jerky kit including a flavored jerky gun. Well, buying a dehydrator to make beef jerky was a mistake. I followed the directions and tried several variations of the jerky. None of the results tasted good. So I started making dried fruit using this dehydrator. Again, none of the dried fruit tasted good. Strawberries, kiwi taste sour. The banana is blackened and not dry enough. I…

Very disappointed Good for kitchen and dining room

I had high hopes for this product. I did a lot of research before finally deciding on a product and read a lot of reviews. I'm one of those people who rarely leave reviews. And to be honest, I've bought a few products before that had pretty bad reviews, but they ended up being perfect for me. Unfortunately, it seems that this company could use a bit of quality control work. After receiving my order, I immediately started with a simple dehydration test on some mushrooms. I'm the kind of person…

Why doesn't a 1000w dehydrator outperform a 700w dehydrator?

I first bought a Nesco Square Tray Dehydrator to make sweet potato treats for our dogs without having to pay the vet $15 a pound. If I calculated the cost of a dehydrator along with buying a sweet potato for between 66 cents and 99 cents a pound, I would save about $500 a year if I made my own. The Nesco Square Dehydrator cost about $70, received high praise from reviewers, had 700W of power, had an internal temperature of 95-155 degrees, and was rated to use up to 20 trays. My first attempts…
