Nikon's best non-professional SLR

Reviewer Ken Rockwell calls this the second best Nikon 35mm SLR made since the F6. I totally agree! It's very reliable - far more than Rockwell gave it credit for - and handles almost any shooting situation. I particularly like that all the controls, including the focus screen, work exactly as they do on pro DSLRs like my D90. You just reach for a knob or button and it's there. If you want to use film and DSLR together, I think the F100 is the right choice.

Pros
  • Integrated drive allows recording at up to 4.5 frames per second
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

I love my old school camera.

My wife bought this camera for my birthday. I use a Nikon AF 85mm f/1.8d and shoot Velvia 50 with it and have had nothing but excellent results. We were in Puerto Rico last summer and I photographed Old San Juan including El Morro, San Cristobal, the National Cemetery and other locations on the western part of the island. Yes, it's expensive to develop, but the colors are unrealistic. I'll make slides until they stop! I'm saving for a second F100 body!

Pros
  • The F100 is a 35mm professional SLR camera, positioned after the N90 and F5 and the second in the Nikon range.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Nikon F100 - GREAT camera

The Nikon F100 lives up to its reputation. After using DSLRs for about a year, I decided to experiment a bit with film. There were cheaper and lighter options, but the Nikon F100 caught my eye with its well-designed body and pro-level feature set. This camera will surely meet your needs. The Nikon F100 makes a very solid, I would say professional impression. It's heavier than most film cameras and about the same weight as a comparable DSLR. As with all professional cameras, you will not find a…

Pros
  • 5-zone AF system with dynamic autofocus
Cons
  • Very expensive
