Description of ๐Ÿ”‡ Noctua NF-A8 PWM: AAO Frame Design, SSO2 Bearing, Premium Quality Quiet Fan

The NF-A8 impeller features suction side Flow Acceleration Channels. By speeding up the airflow at the crucial outer blade regions, this measure reduces suction side flow separation and thus leads to better efficiency and lower vortex noise. Air flow - 32.6 CFM. Noise level - 17.7 decibels. Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua's proprietary Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan's performance/noise efficiency. Noctua's Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx in order to facilitate the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow, which reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment and increases suction capacity. Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads made from extra-soft silicone minimize the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with all standard screws and other mounting systems. The NF-A8 features the further optimized second generation of Noctua's renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilization, precision and durability. Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-A8 PWM uses Noctua's novel, custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. The NF-A8 PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 2200 to 1750rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 1750rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control. The fan's short 20cm primary cable minimizes cable clutter in typical applications while the supplied 30cm extension provides extended reach when necessary.

The perfect product for any user!

As usual, an extraordinarily rich and elegant box, design, and other aspects. Were you required to do that? I don't believe that. However, the cooler by itself is of very high quality. PWM (software control rotation speed), installation for both blowing and blowing, silicone vibration dampers on the cooler, the ability to install on silicone mounts (included), installation for both blowing and blowing, installation for both blowing and blowing, installation for both blowing and blowingโ€ฆ

Used in a new build for my daughter

A local school suggested using a Windows based computer instead of a Chromebook and I went to my case for mini-ITX boards, InWin BP655 . First, I replaced the sleeve bearing fan that came with it with a Noctua NF-A8 PWM. I've been using Noctua fans for over 10 years now and the oldest one is still working great after the 6 year warranty has expired. I also use these fans in Silverstone MIL03 HTPC cases and have no complaints. They are super quiet.

Pros
  • Best in Niche
Cons
  • So far so good

Noctua's reputation is well deserved. My first Noctua fan and I would not hesitate to spend ten euros more if they have a fan that meets my needs. I personally love the color and style of this fan in addition to its performance. In addition, it came with an extension cable, a Y-splitter to use another fan in series, and a voltage drop cable (7V) to make the fan (*or any other fan) spin slower and quieter. I didn't need any of these cables to install this fan, but I've used them all in otherโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • No instructions

Extremely quiet quality fan from a well-known manufacturer

Excellent performance, you can't even hear it turning. The color is ugly and offbeat, but I guess that's all subjective. They (2 pieces) are in the HTPC, the inside of which is not visible, so I don't care.

Pros
  • Large selection of small parts

I recently received these as exhaust fans for my case. I chose the Noctua HSF for the processor I like, so figured I'd use the matching kit for the back of the case to match the aesthetic (since you can see everything through the top window of the case). Rubber anti-vibration bolts make installation much easier than using screws (they come with both so you can choose). The first thing that strikes you when you open the box is that everything is clearly laid out in a foam tray. and looks veryโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fits great for me
Cons
  • Communication with seller

My G34 dual socket motherboard is NOT easy to cool

My G34 dual socket motherboard is NOT easy to cool. I have two Opteron 6272 (32 cores total) and these fans can cool my CPUs. These two Noctua AAOs have replaced my 80mm Corsair fans (may they rest in peace after two years of faithful service). I have to admit this is the first time I've bought a fan other than Corsair or CoolerMaster. I can't find words to express how amazing these fans are. Noctua made me a believer.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Clean

Does what it advertises.

I didn't think it was worth the extra price. I installed this on a Dell as a CPU cooler. This works, but sometimes when booting, the BIOS reports that the fan is defective. This is probably due to the fact that the fan draws very little power (low speed) so the BIOS cannot determine the 'correct' fan. I keep one fan because I can't stand the noisy fan that came with the computer. Also, there weren't many quiet fan options in this size range.

Surprisingly loud: internals

I have 2 of these NF-A8 for my Riotoro Morpheus case, because with a little light modding you can put 2 80mm fans on the back instead of just one. That and 2 NF-A12 intakes for two 240mm wheels pushing out should keep my airflow decent. But they are 2 times more visible than A12. Not 2 times louder, its pitch or anything very noticeable. Airflow is good and the noise isn't bad, just louder than I expected.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Long delivery time
