Great LNA, good for receiver and amp

I added this to the circuit before my GOES SawBird, vit dropped from 550 warm to <200 with LaNA installed! This is an important component when building a GOES-16 receiver setup.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Slightly crumpled

If the light goes out when you connect the SMA, it means a short circuit

As soon as you connect the SMA connector to your SDR, this amplifier will immediately short circuit and the light on it will go out. It finds a ground path using any SDR. I know him on both the orange and blue flights. A silver RTL-SDR might work, but I don't use it because it overheats badly

Pros
  • Finally bought it
Cons
  • Almost never

Blocks the signal and doesn't amplify it

I bought this Nooelec LaNA with a Nooelec dongle to amplify my signal. and my key. LaNA is powered via USB. After installing this device I lose signal on all frequencies. I have no movement in my SDRConsole. If I remove this LaNA and don't change anything else, I get my signal back.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Useless features

There are better and cheaper LNAs out there

Well I got a replacement unit and it also died after a few hours of use. For $40, this usage is rubbish. Out of curiosity, I also bought a HiLetgo 0.1-2000MHz Wideband RF Amplifier, LNA High Gain Low Noise 30dB Amplifier for $11 around the same time I bought this LNA. The crazy thing is that the $11 HiLetgo LNA not only outperforms this expensive one, it also lasts longer! Surprising as it doesn't have a fancy metal body and sits on my desk with SMA cables. All in all, don't waste your money on

Pros
  • Fast replacement
Cons
  • Empty

Turned on immediately when I enabled Bias-T of my USB-SDR via utility. And I immediately noticed that many of the noise spikes I got from switching power supplies and other electronics in my house were gone. The FFT display in SDR# was much flatter (and showed a lot of gain too). My only issue is that I bought it to try and boost the NOAA weather satellite signal to 137.xxxMHz. And if Lana is online, I get nothing. But since it cleans up other stations and transmissions so well, I attribute…

Pros
  • There's something there

There is no quality control.

Received the unit. Sturdy, well built. Power is normally supplied by biasing the coaxial cable. However, the USB didn't power it. I have ordered a replacement. While waiting for a replacement, I noticed in the documentation that there was a jumper inside that looked like it was meant to connect a power connector. I checked and the mountain jumper wasn't on all 4 pins. I reinstalled it and voila! USB power worked. When the replacement arrived there was absolutely no marking on the case on the…

  • Good product for the price

  • Annoys me

Good build and excellent performance - watch out for the coax feedback

I bought this for use with a scanner with a loft mounted antenna and a long cable. The low noise figure and decent LNA gain had a big impact on reception, for example I can now pick up the control tower of a local airport where I could only pick up planes that were previously in the air. The device is very well made. with an extruded case that houses a very nice PCB with RF electronics in another shielded case. There are options to power the device with DC power via the coaxial cable at the…

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Very nice little HF amp

Like other Nooelec products I've bought this LANA amp is well made and works as advertised. You need to filter out any other interference such as B. 14.5 kW Radio Amor 100.3 FM, or you end up amplifying both the interference and your signal. However, with an FM filter from Nooelec I can get a lot more signals in the 1-2 GHz band. I use this amp with SDR Play 1A and use its bias tee to power the amp. With this power supply I don't have to put a DC block in series with the receiver. If you are…

Pros
  • Great price

  • Big and bulky
