First I used the screws from this kit to assemble each shelf. The holes are pre-drilled and although everything lines up the screws are too short and flimsy and the shelves were very wobbly and couldn't have held even the lightest book. I used bigger screws to make it strong. Regardless of how the wood is treated, the surface will become greasy and you will feel it on your hands with every touch. When they are up they work great and look decent.

The shelf itself is very strong but the attachment is questionable. Both shelves were set at the same height in my child's nursery to hold a couple of small stuffed animals that were clearly a lot lighter than books, but one of the shelves fell off the wall and hit the edge of the changing table. Somehow both metal plates with a hole cut in the wood just came off with no explanation. So the equipment stayed in the wall and the wooden shelf on the floor. Scary way to wake up this morning! After driving an hour to IKEA to buy the original version of these shelves and they sold out, I finally said hell with it and decided to see what was in stock. The price could not have been better for these shelves. The quality is not 100%. One of the holes that holds the crossbar that the chain runs through was crooked which caused the crossbar to be bent which also caused it not to sit flush with the wall.
