They make a great combination. I can move it around on my bench but it still keeps my small projects upright and secure. I first encountered this PanaVise setup at work in the late 1970's when technologists were using it to work on printed circuit boards. Wow what a great design. I use a PanaVise 300 at work, works great. I decided to order it for myself. Unfortunately, both the original device and the replacement for this base were missing an important part. Big control knob. I don't know who is really to blame here. It could be Revane who lost his pens or it could be Panavise who forgot to pack them. I bought this vise for electronics work as it is widely available and looks better than cheap alternatives. I like this vice, but it has some problems and some easy ways to fix them. Some of them.
