Breaks very quickly: Datastore

This is my second WD Passport and after less than a year of use it stopped working. I read on the forums that you need to be very careful with passports because their internal drive can be easily damaged and disrupt the operation of the device or even prevent data recovery without much cost. Too bad I didn't know about this before buying a second one as I would have researched other companies. At the very least, it should have a warning about its fragility.

PCs and Macs. They proved to be reliable and powerful, gradually improving with each new generation. The ONLY difference between the Mac and PC versions is the initial formatting and the preinstalled software package (which can be downloaded from Western Digital). Acquiring the Mac version saves some time for a Mac user. That's all. This 2016 model features a new case design with sharp 90 degree angles and a glossy finish that makes fingerprints and scratches easily visible. In my case, I getโ€ฆ

Works as it should

Some time ago I bought a 4 TB Passport because I needed more space. I really like this one because it's nothing like the others I've had. I don't need to partition it to make it work on my Macbook Pro. Just plug it in and it works. Dumping files to disk is very easy and pretty fast. The color and design are also striking. I know this isn't what you would look for in an external hard drive, but this one looks really good. The only downside and the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that itโ€ฆ

My Favorite Portable Hard Drive

I've used these hard drives for almost all of my clients work for the last 3-4 years and I've never had a single failure. They are inexpensive and reliable. Mac owners just need to make sure they buy products labeled "My Passport for Mac".

Works great as a backup storage system.

This works great for my Mac with Time Machine as a backup for all my files. After reading the reviews I decided to buy it and I am very happy with it. I have the 2TB version and it has enough space for me and my files. Great buy and easy to use. Comes with a cable to connect to a laptop!

Plug in and go!

If you don't read otherwise, you can download the user manual here: wd.com/docs (I read it in the fine print in the materials that came with the drive) I've waited WAY too long to back up my Macs. I remember reformatting drives in the past and it wasn't fun. I chose the 4TB version of this drive and gave it a try. I knew the first backup would take some time, so that wasn't a problem. What I liked was that I could connect and the time machine would open up immediately to start the backup. Iโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

I used to have a 2TB portable WD and love these WD products for Mac! They SECURELY WORK with Time Machine BUT ALSO EASY to use as a drag-and-drop hard drive, no special software or apps required (THANKS Western Digital!). Essentially true (passive) plug and play HD!

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Poor set

Works very well but not pretty

This is a very effective device when you have large photo or video files. It holds a huge amount of data for its size and USB 3 is fast enough for transfers. I also really like the security features that come with it, although often the password dialog doesn't pop up automatically as it should, requiring you to enter a password through WD Utilities. Something else. I know the people who designed this drive probably think it looks really neat, but I don't think so. The previous design with onlyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Something different

I bought this hard drive and transferred all my photos and videos to it. When everything was transferred to disk I tried to open the file and saw that it could not be opened. I took it to a computer repair shop and they said it's not my fault I didn't install it wrong or something but that the hard drive was bad (stuff like that? I don't understand these computer technologies). He recommended that I return it and stop buying from this brand. I would not recommend buying this hard drive. You can

Worth considering! for computers and accessories

Works so far, I'll buy a second one. I'm a musician, music producer and sound engineer. I use this to back up my iMac and music. I'd say I almost hated Apple, for example with their recent "upgrade" to High Sierra OS, which made some of my most important recording devices unusable. (Thanks to APPLE for not letting us know that important programs like Apple Logic Pro 9 won't work on the new OS, which means we have to pay over $200 to update Logic X, much less functional is as Logic 9 as DAW =โ€ฆ

  • Useful not only for its intended purpose

  • Slows down infinitely
