Great set for mermaid lovers but not as versatile as other sets. The mermaid shaped pegboard is very specific to this set. It's also worth noting that Revain shipped this in a plastic bag and the packaging exploded inside on arrival. Perler beads throughout.

Sweet set! Our 6 year old daughter loves Beados/Aquabeads so we decided to give it a try. Fuse beads usually require more concentration and precision as there is no "tool" to grab and place the beads. Also, the tray isn't clean, so she has to count the space, but that doesn't stop her. She makes very cute designs and she definitely loves the set.

My 3.5 and 6 year olds really enjoyed the beads this summer so I ordered this as a fun set. They're also big fans of My Little Pony, so they were itching to start making one. The instructions are very clear on how to make them, but I never managed to iron the coasters and pony legs properly enough to actually stand up. This is very misleading as it gives the impression that you are getting individual casts for the characters. Instead it's a big shape and you have to sketch/plan how to make mermaids and other animals. We REALLY need to help our 6 year old (very skilled) do this compared to other forms of Perler that she can do on her own. DON'T LOSE THE INSTRUCTIONS :) With the instructions, these little mermaids are very cute!

I bought this pack specifically for the mermaid shape. You will get a very large fish board that you can use to make a mermaid pattern (doesn't take up much space). A picture of the pattern is included but very difficult for young children. My five year old daughter and her nanny (she's 20 but a beginner!) both had some difficulties. Probably better for older kids. I liked that some of the perler beads bubbled/shiny.

I bought this for my granddaughters (both 8 years old) and spent hours making mermaids and all kinds of ocean designs with this little set. It takes some adult input to "shape" the beads with an iron after the beads are attached to the templates, but that's about it. This is a great activity.
