I bought this recorder for professional lectures. The external 360 degree microphone works well. The device is a bit complex, so check it out before recording anything important. You have to index the recording if you want to hear something in the middle of the recording, otherwise you have to go back to the beginning of the lecture to repeat what you want to hear. I have both the DVT7000 and its improved version, the DVT8000. I bought these for my eighty year old mother as a HEARING AID. It is incredibly good at setting the table with a 360 degree microphone on the table - at home or in a restaurant. No squeaks, batteries are not a problem, the amplifier is powerful, the playback quality is excellent.
