I give 3 stars because they are so difficult to cut. The thickness and strength are amazing for the support but I couldn't cut them by myself or with regular scissors. They're basically little PVC tubes lol if maybe you're going to use them as a center pin you might not need to cut them they would be awesome but if you're looking for support straws you'll need to trim them down. , they are not.

They can't be cut with a nice straight cut, they are too hard. I tried cutting them with the secateurs I usually use with my regular dowels. I wasn't able to make a straight cut. The dowel was very uneven. So unless you know you need dowels that are exactly 6 inches and no less, they will definitely get the job done. However, don't count on cutting them unless you use a pair of steel cutters.

PERFECT! I used to stack a 5 tier cake and they worked great! I read other reviews that said they were too hard to cut with scissors so I sanded them down with a tiny handsaw and some sandpaper but then tried scissors and with enough force they were cut. They held up perfectly with no problems! When I reached the bottom of the cake to cut it, they were still completely intact. The cake stood for over 6 hours.
