Even the painted grille looks very gray against the white ceiling, but if you're particularly fond of it, putting acoustically neutral white fabric behind the grille can boost the color a bit. With this installed in my ceiling I tried different ways to change the sound/boost the bass produced by the insulation. First, I stuffed some denim insulation between the floor joists to create a complete seal about 12 inches on each side of the speaker cutout. Nothing seems to change the sound.
