Assuming it was potassium chloride, I tried to make a 3 molar solution (22.4 g per 100 ml of water) but even when I heated the water to 50 Β°C it dissolved not up. The solubility of KCl is 31g/100ml at 20 degrees, so it is nothing but pure KCl and the product label does not indicate the purity or other contents.

Pros
  • A good source of potassium
Cons
  • disappears

The product is actually potassium chloride but of low purity

I bought it as a low level radiation source for a gamma spectrometer. I can confirm that it contains potassium - the characteristic gamma rays of K-40 with an energy of 1460 keV are clearly visible. The Geiger counter also registers the amount of radiation, consistent with it being composed primarily of potassium chloride. However, it's not very clean; probably technical grade, 95% or so. It is a pink, cream color; KCl should be white. I dissolved some in water and found that it definitely…

Pros
  • Chemical formula - KCl
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

Impure Potassium Chloride

poor quality product. Whatever it is, it's not pure KCl. For a putative chemical company that boasts its motto "Elementary First Quality," this KCl is hardly that. They also say that the specification is available online. It's not like this. I don't want to use it. It was a waste of money. The product is off-white, pink-orange in color and resembles raw potassium chloride ore (sylvite) - probably no more than 95-98% pure at best. It did not produce the characteristic lavender flame but more of…

Pros
  • Comes in a resealable pouch sealed for security and freshness. It includes a pull tab for easy opening.
Cons
  • boring packaging
