Whoever created this design did it right. A lot of thought went into the design. The lid is held, it can be held by the lid, and it will not fall out from below. The lid comes off so easily I can do it with one hand. Nice transparent top, you can see how much oil is left. Size markings on both sides make baking easier. My husband and I are using butter instead of margarine again. Manufacturers have made so many changes to margarine that they all taste unnatural. We ordered this butter dish because we planned to put it on the counter so our butter is always soft. We thought the silicone seal would help keep the oil fresh. First, we're in our sixties. I really like this butter dish! I wanted something that would keep my oil from spreading throughout the fridge area and it works better than expected. I really like the measuring grid and use it all the time. I also appreciate the quality of the materials. The thickness and strength of the lid and base looks like they will last for years.
