Very strong, highly polished 316L stainless steel. It's worth noting that this lobster clasp is one of the best I've come across - it even matches the functionality and finely detailed construction of some gold jewelry. I'm not short, but I have small wrists. I was afraid it would be too big or too manly for me. Although the design of the chain is more suited to men's jewelry, I was pleasantly surprised. I waited a while to see how it would hold up. So far, so good! No stretching or bending at key parts. Looks like the day I got it. It easily withstood the hard work of the fire brigade. Not too shiny, but not matte either.

Damn good for a low price. I was expecting them to be poorly cut/rough or have a crappy clasp, but they actually looked pretty good and the links are nice smooth metal with a good clasp.
