Rainbow Vacuum Rexair R12179 Filters Review

I didn't realize how much suction my Rainbow was losing. I used the same HEPA filter for about 5 years until a friend suggested replacing it. My Rainbow had a strange smell that I couldn't get rid of. After replacing the HEPA filter, the smell was gone and the suction power really increased. I am very happy with this purchase and will be buying a new HEPA filter more often to keep my Rainbow running at its best.

I just received this in the mail on 7/9/18 from dba Tidy Vacuums of Winchester, VA. This is not a genuine OEM part; that is generic. It's made in China, it doesn't have a black foam muffler and it doesn't have a washing symbol, despite being on this list. The genuine part, made by Rexair, is made in the USA, has a piece of black foam on the outlet and a pictogram that says "Wash with water only, no soap". The punches waste my time. Returned.

Replaced the HEPA filter in our Rainbow e2 with this one so far so good. It has been sealed and boxed and looks like a real rainbow piece. Apparently you have to replace the HEPA filter on these vacuums every few years and after trying to clean the old filter and not seeing much improvement I ordered it. Since we have a lot of kids and pets in our house, the new filter made the Rainbow smell brand new when I cleaned it again. Hooray!

This filter is exactly the same as the one that came with my Rainbow. Just make sure you double check your model number as at some point Rainbow changed their filter! Like many filters, you can clean them with just warm water (no soap!) and shaking. To dry: put the filter back in the vacuum cleaner. Turn on the vacuum for 20 min. The vacuum will shake all the water from the filter onto the floor, so have a towel handy to wipe it off! Your filter will be well dried and ready to use.

Two things. 1) I almost didn't buy because someone wrote a review saying they didn't get a real rainbow filter, but figured I'd just return it if I didn't get it - I DID get a genuine part. It is rinsed with water and there are no soapy images on it. Glad I took the risk. 2) I was concerned because the photos on the internet made it look like the exposed vent was round and not oval like the part I wanted, so I figured it might not fit.
