    Effective when used correctly.

    This clears the field. Whether it's streaming media or broadcast, it quashes those loud bursts that should be limited by the broadcaster. Also works well for amateur radio. For technical types, this is a limiter and a preamp. sudo AGK. It is a variable gain amplifier driven by a user adjustable optically coupled feedback loop. An LED indicates when clipping occurs.     It's a volume limiter, not an automatic volume control

    I can't hear well and need an automatic volume control. That's the volume limiter. It makes a (clapping?) noise when adjusting the volume. If you try to use it as AVC, turning the big knob up and using the smaller "limiter" knob to adjust the volume, you get this constant popping noise at the peaks of the audio.     Very simple little 'hands free' limiter

    It works but you have very little control over what it does. Mine doesn't even have a red gain reduction LED. Only green for electricity. The only control you have is the threshold. You set a point at how loud the incoming signal must be before the limiter starts reducing the gain. The Make-up Gain control allows you to increase the overall sound level coming out of this unit to compensate for the limiter roll off. It doesn't set any limiter options at all.     If you use speakers for TV sound (not built in TV speakers), this device allows you to limit the volume from your speakers come. This eliminates the problem of loud noises, commercials or scenes when trying to watch a movie without disturbing your neighbors.     The device is simple and works well enough

    The device is simple and works well enough. The Makeup Gain control controls the input level of the compressor circuit, the Threshold control controls the compression. There is a red LED that shows the compression level. Input volume and "Makeup Boost" should be set together so that the red LED flickers slightly at the desired compression level.
