My favorite 2.5 " case!

This is my fourth purchase of this particular outer shell. Since buying laptops for kids in college, I've been pulling the 1GB drives out of them and replacing them them with SSDs. I then install rotating drives on these shelves and set them up as backup drives. These shelves are flat, rugged, USB 3.0, and their tool-less design makes it easy to install drives on them. They've never let me down .

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Easy to use outer shell

Easy to use, "insert" into a 2.5 inch drive, close the lid and you're done! It works well for transferring data from an old primary drive, as I did, and now works well as a backup drive since I reformatted the drive. There are nice rubber feet on the bottom of the disc which are very helpful. I wish the included USB 3.0 cable was longer, but that's a minor complaint as it's used to secure my laptop.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Works great. I bought an internal 1TB SSD because it was MUCH cheaper than buying an external SSD. I've used it to connect to my Xbox One and haven't had any read/write issues, and games like Fallout 4, Forza Horizon 2, and Halo 5 not only stopped lagging, but also loaded chapters faster in-game. I would highly recommend this with a quality SSD.

Pros
  • Very impressive

Housing at a good price.

It's cheaper than the average case but does the job well. The plastic case sometimes doesn't close perfectly, which may require extra effort. The USB 3.0 cable does not fit neatly into the connector on the case. This means that it must remain in such a position that the cable cannot wobble during use. This is when you are not willing to take risks. I've seen file transfers fail when a cable is misaligned in a chassis connector. Overall, it gets the job done, it's portable, and its price is very

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Don't take this = spend a few bucks more and get a quality one!

NO high-quality case. I installed an SSD there and found the following problems: 1) The case is difficult to open and close. 2) There is no cable included so don't get too stiff = If you get a cable that is a bit stiff it will put a lot of pressure on the connector/body which will cause the connections to loosen. And the connector/connector on the case is not very good. 3) The case is not specially made for SSD, so the SSD inside will loosen over time and cause the connections to come loose…

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Exchange option

Disappointing speeds

Disappointed. I used to have a USB cable adapter from IOCrest (seems to be discontinued from Revain) but I went with this case so I wouldn't have to worry about my hard drive breaking. Speed comparison with Samsung Magician (using the same USB 3.0 port and hard drive): Rosewill USB 3.0: Sequential Read: 26 MB/s, Sequential Write: 5 MB/s, Random Read: 1123 IOPS, Random Write: 290 IOPSIO, Rest USB 3.0: Serial Read: 101 MB/s Sequential Write: 64 MB/s Random Read: 3258 IOPS Random Write: 1178 IOPS…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Some nuances
