The water is fresh. If high concentrations of phosphates for 5+ are of little use, but if there are few phosphates, and you need to leave the aquarium for several weeks, after very good changes, when the concentration drops below 1 without this miracle of chemistry and the fish do not feed and leave, then yes absorbs phosphates. I did everything strictly according to the instructions, you can use it, but not permanently, as money thrown into nowhere.

Pros
  • Something is absorbing.
Cons
  • There is practically no use if there are a lot of phosphates in the bank.

Clean & Clear for Fish and Aquatic Animals

I use this in combination with GAC and Phosban because Purigen itself does not reduce phosphate. The trio has really made a huge difference in the clarity of my water and is very helpful in controlling algae. I thought of ChemiPure Elite but my colleagues recommended it and I was not disappointed. I'm almost ready to replace it and don't think I'll try to reactivate it. The thought of soaking it in bleach and putting it back in my tank scares me. no matter how many times i rinse it lol. As with

Works perfectly. My phosphate was so high I had to.

Works great. My phosphate levels were so high that I had to test in the high range. Even after a 20% water change. I whispered this into a filament filter (I only use it for water flow and extra charcoal. 55 gallon reef tank here) and my phosphate levels dropped to a low test level in 3 days. I took it out and replaced fresh after 4 days but this time I mixed it in half with Seachem Carbon Matrix which is the same size and shape as this one. I actually had to take it out after another week. My…

Removing phosphates and silica from our aquariums

This is just fantastic. It turns out that our city water contains a lot of silica and also phosphates. These accumulated in our aquariums and caused brown algae. We started putting this PhosGuard in filters and within 2 weeks both silica and phosphate were down to zero and the seaweed stopped growing. I just add 1/4 cup of it to the filters along with the charcoal. Now that we know water was the culprit, we're going to use filtered water now. I also bought both phosphate and silica test kits so
