This is just fantastic. It turns out that our city water contains a lot of silica and also phosphates. These accumulated in our aquariums and caused brown algae. We started putting this PhosGuard in filters and within 2 weeks both silica and phosphate were down to zero and the seaweed stopped growing. I just add 1/4 cup of it to the filters along with the charcoal. Now that we know water was the culprit, we're going to use filtered water now. I also bought both phosphate and silica test kits so I can watch the level drop and test the water in my house. Now that the values are zero I may not need this anymore as we will be using filtered water to prevent silica and phosphate from getting into the tank. But this thing did it! If you have brown algae, you need this to remove those things that the algae feed on. About Using Filters: Our pump in our 55 gallon tank has two large rectangular filters that allow water to flow through like a waterfall. Adding PhosGuard is easy with these filters. And we change each of the filters once a week on different days. We change the left filter on Wednesdays and the right filter on Saturdays.
