You can't handle the truth

I'm a curmudgeon and I'll admit it. I hate throwing away a tool just because the handle is broken. And I enjoy the feel of a good wooden grip. Sometimes good pens can be hard to find locally so I bought a couple from Revain. This particular pen is of excellent quality at a very reasonable price. It was easy to install and has excellent ergonomics. And I can save a good hammer.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • There are bugs

Harder to find in a discarded society.

Replacement buttons are becoming increasingly difficult to find. You can buy a cheap hammer for less than a pen. But if you have a favorite hammer, a new handle will do. They must be tailored to the individual head, but must add years to life. If you've never changed a pencil before, you should put your head down, hold your head down, take another hammer, and bang the end of the handle over and over again. The head will bounce harder and harder. Trim the excess off the top of the handle and…

Not so great. - Hammers

If you're picky about your hand tools, this pencil isn't for you. I ordered two pens. Both bowed. One had an end latch on the bottom of the handle that extended to the other side. When they arrived they were covered in a thick, rough varnish that looked like it had been burned. There were large streaks of this varnish at the end of the handle (this covered a gap in the wood that I found later). After putting the handle on the hammer, I felt it was wrong. The wooden bow moves the head a good 1/2

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

It was possible to buy a new hammer cheaper

but for me personally it would not have been worth it. This thing cost more than the Stalwart 16 ounce claw hammer sold by Revain for 5.45. I paid 5.74 for the pen. Then why pay more? For some, it's the quality of their hammer, better than a stalwart, and for others, like me, it's non-monetary value. When I first moved on my own, my father gave me his old, inexpensive hammer as a housewarming gift. I've loaned it to my mom and friends over the years and rarely used it. After 22 years, the…
