These things don't last forever. So replacing them or having a spare is never a bad idea, especially when they are so affordable. If you notice any noises or hard start other than the battery, this is most likely your problem.

The starter motor on my 125cc Tao Tao engine failed so I replaced it with this one. Started straight away. It was pretty easy to install, just a few screws and back and you're done. I've had it running for a long time now, I don't expect it to go down any time soon.

Perfect replacement for my boy Taotao 125. Starter definitely spins faster than the original. I had to replace the original starter because the manufacturer broke the brush. This only left a clicking sound from the Selonoide. The replacement is not bad. Remove 3 bolts from starter motor, 4 bolts from stator cover and 2 hooks from left footrest.

I ordered this item. Removed the burned starter (3 screws). Found that the starter uses a chain so I had to open the case from the back of the motor. After removing the left/right derailleur and pedal/stop. Slip the chain over the new starter and check the alignment. Close the case, tighten the starter screws, reinstall the V/H switch and pedal. I'm not a mechanic but I figured it out. The quad fired instantly! Very happy.

This starter was perfect. It almost seems to be a replacement for type 0ME. Works like new. However, it didn't solve my problem. The reason it just spins and won't start was that there was a problem with the flywheel. If you don't know if you need a starter or not, remove the panel behind the shifter (see photo), turn the engine over and see if it turns.
