Bought for my Gen V Mercruiser as it is to replace 8M0079202. This is not for my 454 BB engine. My old coil doesn't need an external resistor and that should have been a flag right there. Luckily someone needed a smaller engine so I sold it to them. I hate giving 2 stars for a Sierra piece as I like using them as the Mercruiser stuff is gold plated at platinum prices.

I always bench test the coil to make sure it meets factory specs. This one didn't even come close. In fact, there was a short in the primary winding, causing the resistance to fluctuate from 12 to 19 ohms when it should be between 0.6 and 0.8 ohms. Sent it back for a refund. The seller immediately provided a prepaid label and a full refund upon receipt. Therefore, always test electronic devices before installation, especially for electronics made in China.
