I'm a hairdresser and order this for myself. There is no perforation and I was trying to see what the hair would look like to do with the ones I was wearing a cap, it was quite difficult so I removed the cap and pre-punched the holes with a safety pin, that Hole was tiny but enough to solve the problem. The only thing I think is that when I ripped my hair out, a few holes were ripped out. The hat is a bit big but that's ok as everyone has a different head size and hair thickness. What I did was

I should have listened to the reviews on this product. I have a small head and they were so big on my head. The holes are not pre-punched and this cap is thick. I couldn't even pierce the cap while it was on my head. I should have done that first before I pulled my hair. I've seen this cap used many times, but it was too big for me.

It was insanely difficult to pierce the rubber cap with a retractable stick. I only did half the highlights I normally do with disposable caps just because they were so hard to pierce. However, it was definitely easier to take my head off in the shower than the disposable caps and very easy to clean for next use.

I'm a licensed barber so trust me this hat is made cheaply. I bought this to do my own highlights and it was a pain. Firstly one hat was completely destroyed the moment I opened the package, I'm not sure if it was due to the heat inside the package or what happened, but the hat folded and ripped like it had been glued together . The hair came out great but there were no instructions for use, the caps are huge! But trying to poke holes in my head didn't work AT ALL! So I decided to take off my hat, pull out some of my hair and stuff the rest in. I had to use a towel with a crochet hook to poke the holes in because it was very difficult and I have SO MUCH LONG THICK HAIR My hair under the cap was very tangled but after washing off the bleach mixture the cap slipped off the dyed hair, which I can't say about plastic caps.

The holes must be made with the hooks provided in them. It's more or less difficult as I dig into my clients' heads. They will also tear a little if you are very hard. This happens to me about twice. They still shine great but maybe I'm doing it wrong? I worked as a hairdresser for a while, but I've never dealt with hats like this.
