Silva Ranger Mini Compass Black Review

Like many other customers who reviewed this product, I received a compass with a large bubble level which interferes with both vision and free rotation/balance of the hand. Really unhappy.

Poor packaging for a precision instrument. The compass will be mailed in a paper postal envelope. The vial inside the capsule is still visible in the unopened pack. This affects the needle and makes the compass unreliable.

I got the Ranger SL compass to find the bubble in the bezel. The bubble interfered with the rotation of the needle. I sent it back for a replacement thinking it was a one off issue. When the replacement came, it was the same. It seems that the quality of Silva is not what the brand used to be. I came back to get my money back.

Many years ago I bought a Silva type 27 compass! I love it. So small, but advanced enough for a very, very accurate map for compass reading, mirrored back for pinpointing your next built-in landmark. The mirror can be used for signaling and even as a sundial for the approximate time of day. Now, after the 1990s, I couldn't find the Type 27 anymore and desperately wanted another. Totally out of service with a huge bubble and not even pointing north with any sequence. Also inclined towards the heavier south side of the needle, so brought back. Something so small and flawed ruins Silva's image. Even the quality of the little things counts. I and others who know this compact compass are dying to buy it for themselves and their kids. This should be a bestseller. Apparently they go under like many other companies. People are willing to pay a lot more for quality that lasts…

I read that Silva is one of the highest quality compass manufacturers so I decided to spend a little more to get this model. The description sounds great and it seems like a good compass design. However, I assume it was made quickly and cheaply as it already had a large bubble in the liquid when I received it. Inside, the bubble is already about a quarter of an inch at room temperature. I'm assuming it will be significantly larger when it's cold. I see others have encountered the same complaint
