🎥 SIRUI VA-5 Fluid Video Head with Quick Release Plate - VH/VA-Series Review

A lot of people write reviews of this head and say it has a bad clamping system on the platter, but if you knew how to use it you would know it is an arsenal of clamping systems. Take the ear you twist to tighten the plate and pull it out. If you spin it you will find that this is a great head.

Great product, like the suppleness of the pick, typically a great Sirui product we've heard of. My only problem is how the seller shipped it. (see photo) The original packaging was not in any other packaging to protect it like most shipments (especially worldwide) but the packaging itself was not even sealed. Anyone could open it. Heads are a fairly delicate item and shouldn't be hit.

I prefer Sirui products. That said, this head is fine, but for the money, the weight limit and counterweight weren't enough for my current setup. I think the Manfrotto 502 (MVH502AH in my case) at almost the same price (for now) is a better choice unless your setup/system is very small and light. The Manfrotto is slightly larger and heavier, but that's to be expected given the specs.

I use this with a Swarovski ATX95 spotting scope. Vertical damping is great for this scope. I wish the horizontal pan and plate lock levers were a bit bigger. And sometimes the record is difficult to put in the head. The first copy (only $200 at the time) was a bit wobbly. This is a very small and light head that performs pan and tilt functions smoothly. It is compatible with arca-swiss. Unless you are using a cotton backing plate that is too large for the device. I don't know if Shirui or Cotton Carrier is to blame. I solved the problem by attaching the Arca-Swiss adapter plate to the plate that came with the unit.
