It's only a 1 inch piece of foam but the cover is rated for at least 2 inches. Very thin and not at all the quality you would expect for the price. Purchase a separate piece of thicker foam to use in place of the one you received.

The foam insert is much smaller than the fluffy cover. I had to velcro it around the skylight to keep it in place and now I have a big fluffy bubble hanging in my kitchen. But at the end of the day, it blocks the light and lowers the temperature.

This item will be shipped vacuum packed and should expand within an hour. This is my second defect. The product does not stretch to its 3 inches even after a week. It's useless to me. Insulation foam does not expand after being compressed. The rest of the material is enough. If you want to invest more money, you can add additional padding yourself.
