SMALLRIG Canon EOS M3 and M6 Cage with Cold Shoe and NATO Rail (Not for M6 Mark II) - 2130 Review

Great cage for my Canon EOS M! I was told it is not compatible with my M because the cage is for M3 or M6. I can confirm it fits M. No cropping necessary! I also have SmallRig ball heads and they are amazing too. Thank you SmallRig for a quality product!

This cage is perfect for the M3. All functions of the camera are available, it is lightweight and durable. Numerous threaded holes throughout the cage make it convenient and easy to attach accessories and external devices such as microphones, lights and small external monitors. My original intention was to increase the functionality of the camcorder and this cage helps make that possible.

This product has clearly never been tested in the field. It does not have a lock washer for the mounting screw, so it may come loose from the camera during normal use. In addition, the bezel is higher than advertised "images" and interferes with using the shutter speed scroll wheel. That being said, this product is VERY overpriced due to the lack of actual pre-launch testing.

Despite what is written in the description and in the picture. this cage is not suitable for new canon m6 mkii. I returned mine for a refund. I am very happy. The little machine should have known about this idea, my m6 mk2 is a perfectly normal m6. I am sure they have had many other returns from other m6 owners. Next time I will try the UUrig cage. Be wary of Smallrig's claims when purchasing. The best part is Revain's hassle-free returns process. I ordered another cage. I hope it fits.

Some test reports say that this setting interferes with the controls of the EOS M6, that's nonsense. All buttons and rotary controls are still easily accessible. If you have gorilla hands you probably shouldn't be using a small mirrorless camera like the M6 anyway, but I love this rig and use it with the mic on the side and also took the grip for those occasions when I might need it around the next to make a recording. I had this cage for my Canon M3 for a little over 2 months and found 3 main problems with the cage: 1) the aperture wheel on the top of the M3 is clogged and needed extra ones effort to turn it; 2) the chamber slips out of the cage due to the lack of a set screw, plug or lock washer; 3) The right side grip hides the camera's IR receiver and does not allow a remote shutter release. Although the description does not state it will fit the M6 Mark II, many accessories are often interchangeable between the M6 and M6 Mark II. However, this cell is not one of them. The cage essentially matches the camera's form factor. However, the cage mounting screw does not match the M6 Mark II mounting screw hole.
