I actually got this item somewhere else in a combo. I have used D-Link and Linksys cards and this card is by far the best. Although not very attractive, SMC has always made excellent and reliable networking products. I had no trouble setting up the entire Wi-Fi network and the fidelity is excellent. The smc2435w is a great card. Even with 128-bit WEP, I was constantly connected at 22 Mbps through the smc2404bwr router both at home and on the patio. I haven't bothered to check the range further and I'm too lazy to try 256-bit WEP with its code a little over fifty characters. Important note: I had to upgrade to XP SP1 to install the map.
