You can steam vegetables in the microwave, just don't fill it all the way or it will never be fully cooked. It's a bit flexible, but still better than buying bags all the time.

I was given a set of Gripstics a few years ago. My wife thought it was a trick and they languished in a drawer. After they were discovered it was great. I found Snapbags on their website. In short: they work great. I had no problem filling them rather than boiling them, although you'll have to experiment with the timing. Reheating the cooked foods they were stored in is an absolute breeze, the best broccoli and cauliflower I have ever sold.

To reduce my use of single-use plastic, I tried several brands of reusable storage bags. This brand is the best so far. It's easy to clean (dishwasher or hot soapy water) and the clasp is very effective. Some other brands I tried either didn't close after a few uses or were very difficult to open once taken from the freezer. I now have 4 and 6 cup snap bags. They help keep food fresh in my fridge, so there's less waste. Highly recommended.

I bought a size 3 green mug. best for me I cook for two and often don't use a whole onion, tomato, avocado, apple and you can easily store them in just one bag.
