Simple but effective

This one doesn't have a ground connection like some others, but it's perfectly fine for my use case. The price is pretty good for what it offers. Installing the driver on my Raspberry PI Zero W wasn't difficult, after adding the driver I have to restart it to load it (couldn't start the module without a reboot), but then it worked. I also tested on a MacBook Pro. and everything worked fine, no drivers needed.

Pros
  • Fully USB 2.0 compatible, backwards compatible with USB 1.1
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Has been running for several months now

I installed this in a Tesla Wall Charger as part of a DIY project to charge my car with excess solar power. These cheaper serial adapters have a reputation for randomly failing after about a month of use. Mine has been running fine for a few months. It was easy to set up on Raspbian - no drivers were required, the behavior was absolutely standard. So far, so good!

Pros
  • Supports a range of speeds: 75 bps - 115200 bps, up to 6 Mbps
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Works but not very well made

These devices are exactly what I expected for the price. Super cheaply built but functional. The case is pressed in with plastic pins, so be careful with that. Also, the USB port's ground pins are not bent or soldered to the board, meaning the surface mount USB data/power pins are the only thing holding the USB port to the board. I highly recommend opening them up, stacking the ground pins around the board and soldering them, which will make the device more durable. Otherwise it works great for

Pros
  • Support system: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Linux, MacOS and WinCE5.0 Disc
Cons
  • So far so good
